Wow, 2011 has already flown past us.  For those of us here at Holy Cacao, it’s been another year full of growth, new plans, new friends and excitement towards 2012.  We’ll be announcing some exciting news for our fans in the coming year that will be comfort to the child in all of you!

As you plan your resolutions for the new year, think about volunteering more.  We’ve seen first hand the difference that it can make when you mentor a child, or feed a hungry person.  It will not only touch the person in need but will also impact you and your circle in exponentially positive ways.  A little bit really can go a long way.

Enough preaching!  Just a friendly resolution suggestion (that does NOT involve shorting yourself on dessert).  We will be open from 11-6 New Year’s Eve and open normal hours, 11-10 New Years Day.

Our Holiday Favorite, Santa’s Balls, have made a strong comeback.  Don’t miss your chance to get this holiday classic before they sell out!

First, we take our classic chocolate cake, mix it with a peppermint infused butter cream frosting and then dip it in dark chocolate.  Finally we top it with crushed candy cane crunch to give it a great texture and insure you that St. Nick must’ve been there!  Perfect for your holiday party and available for LOCAL delivery through the end of the month.  If you would like to order them online for shipping anywhere throughout the US, select your total quantity and flavor mix, and “over order” on a flavor.  I.E., if you want one dozen but you just want 6 red velvet and 6 santa’s; order 6 red velvet and 6 brass balls. Then, in the comments/notes tell us to substitute the Santa’s for the Brass.

And on the shipping note, please place all orders for shipment on our website NO LATER than Sunday 12/18/2011 to avoid express rate shipping fees.  Orders received through, Sunday, we can ship by USPS Priority.

We recently celebrated Christmas with our awesome (and as advertised, always fresh) team.  From Right to Left: Luna Mitchell, Francis McLean, Chandler Gandy, Mariah Stevens-Ross, Mary Mohrin, Ellen Kinsey and John Spillyards.

We shared with our team how proud we are of their uniqueness and what each of them have brought to help make us a better company for you.  In fact, over the years, we’ve truly been surrounded by great people- virtually everyone having contributed something that is today a part of what makes us better.  In thinking on the brilliant “quirkiness” of our team, we were reminded of Jack Kerouac:

“Here’s to the crazy ones: the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of the rules and have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them, because they change things, they push the human race forward and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

We were thrilled to be featured in Rachel Ray’s Magazine in a story titled, “Street Carts Named Delicious”.  She highlighted four “Fabulous” Food Trucks:

The Renaissance Sausage Truck (Philadelphia), The Grilled Cheese Truck (Los Angeles), Comida Tacos (Boulder, Co) and …wait for it…yep: Holy Cacao (Austin!).  Very cool.  We met her recently while she was in Austin and she had us make KIND Snack inspired Cake Balls for her SXSW VIP Party House.

We’re thrilled to be highlighted and once again, VERY GRATEFUL to our friends and partners at KIND Snacks for getting us on her radar!

So if you find yourselves in any of these cities, take Rachel’s advice and find out what gourmet fare you can find right off the street!

We were pleased to be written up by the staff at Redbook Magazine for the April 2011 issue.  They highlight our Holy Cacao Cake Balls in the 100% Good For You section promoting the great taste that we deliver for less than 190 calories.  By the way, an average cupcake contains 600 calories.  We love cupcakes but wanted to deliver the same, sweet-tooth satisfaction that we get from a single cupcake in a smaller portion.  You can certainly eat more than one Cake Ball (and we will confess that we have too!) but you are now in better control of your portions.

Beyond using all natural ingredients, that you can pronounce, we also wanted to focus on the way that you eat our dessert.  By mixing the frosting with the cake and putting it all on a stick, you can now avoid a nose full of frosting and sticky fingers!  We know now days there are lots of people following our lead (yeah, Starbuck’s, we noticed!).  But unlike many competitors, we are committed to using real CHOCOLATE, not Candy Melts.  And NO Cake Mix!

Thanks to all who visited during SXSW this year.  We had a great time listening to the music, dancing and eating chocolate!  This year we were selected to be the snack of choice with our partners-in-KIND, KIND Snacks at Rachel Ray’s “Feedback” VIP House.  We  created Cake Balls inspired by the delicious, and all natural approach that KIND Snacks uses.  We respect the direction that as a company they chose to lead with;  From their website:  “KIND is a brand of all natural whole nut and fruit bars made from ingredients you can see and pronounce and it’s also a movement that gives new purpose to snacking.”  Like KIND, Holy Cacao is a company that believes strongly in this direction.  We use all natural ingredients as well that you can pronounce and your grandmother would understand.  Eggs, milk, flour, sugar and lots and lots of chocolate.  NO Candy Melts.  And NO Cake Mix.

We would like to add that it is still possible to create delicious snacks, that have been certified by Analytical Food Labs to be 190 calories each, with all natural ingredients.  Surprisingly it is done without the use of polysorbate 60 or tetrasodium pyrophosphate (though one old family recipe did call for a dash of sodium propionate).  And no worthwhile Cake Ball should have Corn Syrup!  Look, we get it.  When we were testing recipes, we tried mix and candy melts.  The fact was, that the cost savings did not outweigh the taste that quality, natural ingredients delivered.

We also applaud KIND Snacks charitable efforts as well as their ongoing stand for doing “the right thing”.  They have truly been a pleasure to work with, to know and to consider friends.
